Our First Student
Over the past few weeks we have all heard more than enough bad news. Despite the strict lock down that has been happening in Peru (read more on Billy and Kate Greenman’s blog here) Paths of Hope is excited to announce our first sponsored student.
Huberth spent much of his youth in a home for abandoned and at-risk boys. He was a very bright and gifted student, but had no options for higher education after high school graduation. Then he learned about a government scholarship for qualifying students who had been in orphanages. Huberth applied and received a scholarship to study architecture at a prestigious Lima university. Huberth had completed three years of a five- year degree when the work load, combined with a part-time job became too much and he had to drop out.
When Billy and Kate returned to Peru this past September, they renewed their connection with Huberth, whom they had known for years, and through their conversations with him, the Board felt that he would be an ideal candidate for a POH educational scholarship.
We are excited to share with you that Huberth is now re-enrolled in the Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola, and began a new semester of classes in March. He is thrilled and so grateful to have the opportunity to pursue once again his dream of becoming an architect.
Huberth shared the following about what has drawn him to a degree in Architecture:
“I chose architecture because it seemed like a degree where I could combine my two passions. I love art and math. Additionally, as I have progressed in my course of study, I have taken new interest in the environment and urban planning. I am specializing in sustainable architecture and urban planning, and my goal, with God’s help and your prayers is to be an instrument of blessing to others.”
We look forward to helping many more worthy young students like Huberth in their pursuit of God’s calling for their life.
