2020 in the rear view mirror

As we look back over 2020, even though the year did not turn out as any of us had planned, we have been blessed to see God's hand guiding and directing Paths of Hope Ministries and missionaries Billy and Kate Greenman in ways we never expected. In order to continue this work into 2021, several individuals have agreed to match your donations through the end of the year. We have three more days to give!

New Partnership - God opened up an opportunity to join with Health Bridges International in a model program that will be implemented at two Girasoles homes for abandoned boys in Ica and the Sacred Valley. (learn more)

Peer Mentoring Program - A second program was also begun to walk alongside young men aging out of orphan care. The Tigre Program will begin to train older young men who have aged out of orphan care to walk alongside young men transitioning out of homes. (learn more)

Training Opportunities - Thanks to the opportunities afforded by Zoom, Billy has been able to both attend trainings to enhance his education and experience and present trainings for teachers and church mentors. He participated in a 6-week course called "Advanced Trauma Competent Caregiving" hosted by Trauma Free World and Back2Back Ministries. (learn more) This training demonstrates working with children who have come from hard places through the lens of trauma informed care. This has led to additional mentor training and Billy has been designated a point person for people who participated and live or work in Peru. Before the pandemic hit, Billy was asked to present to public school teachers on the effect of trauma in students, and he continues to train a group of lay leaders in a church to come alongside those in trauma as mentors. (learn more)

Scholarships - Huberth, our first scholarship student, has completed another year of architecture school (learn more). Huberth recorded a short video thank you last month to show his gratitude for your support:

Looking ahead to 2021, we are mapping a pathway forward in ministry, while learning to hold onto our plans loosely and seek God's purposes. We plan to:

  • Implement a Life Skills Curriculum for the boys living in Girasoles homes in Ica and the Sacred Valley

  • Train mentors from churches in Lima, Ica and the Sacred Valley to begin working with children as they age out of orphan care

  • Identify and train young men who have already aged out of Girasoles homes to serve as peer mentors

  • Identify and begin supporting additional students in need of scholarship assistance

Matching Gift Drive - In order to expand our ministry and meet these goals, several individuals have agreed to match donations that come in by the end of 2020. Please visit our website to make your donation now, so it will be doubled!
